Look out for Voter Info Pamphlets going out soon from the State and your county/city governments! Online PDFs of those guides will be linked and shared when they’re available.
Below is a mind map of this year’s measures. Unfortunately the current subscription doesn’t allow guests to edit, so I’m looking for alternatives but see below for a preferred method of organizing arguments. In summary, it classifies arguments as types, and whether the argument is in favor or opposition to the motion. This aids our ability to find objectivity, instead of being lost in the weeds of singular arguments. Also note the green ‘citation needed’ and red ‘further research needed’ subtopics.
This helps us keep track of arguments. In the future, we will aim to be able to take our arguments and dissect them to find certain patterns and elevate our discourse.
AAR (after action review): It was far from perfect, though it accomplished its most basic goals.
Getting used to Zoom – lack of familiarization shows. Also much more difficult to read a room. Given the number of participants, it felt like we did not have enough time to hear significantly from each person.
Breakout rooms without overview of measures and crappy brief left people waiting idly before I individually briefed groups. Did not realize until after that I could prep rooms and still brief the group as a whole.
Time management. We ran out of time, we did not get to a level of discussion or discourse that I would have been super satisfied with.
Organizing notes in a format that helps facilitate discussion and allow folks to be able to draw some overarching principles and perhaps even get to some philosophy (echelons of thought). I indeed have such a format but forgot to intro it due to feeling pressed for time.
Time for research: 20 minutes is barely enough to scratch the surface. Received suggestion to allow for a shared document for interested parties to organize their research for the good of the group come discussion time. Will do (see above).
Sharing and influencing each other’s values. Should always press and respond to individual’s notions, try to identify what exactly causes folks to shift one way or the other to go deeper into values held.
